On our longest Disney World days, we’d rack up 25,000+ steps. That’s over 10 miles! That’s a lot of walking, and when you walk that much hydration is a must. This is especially true when negotiating the needs of a multi-generational family trip at Disney. This is also regardless of the time of year you plan on visiting. Usually, we bring water bottles with us. We liked filling up at every water fountain we could. We weren’t taking advantage of the free water at Disney.

This last trip though, our first trip with Skippy, we had a change of heart. We had brought our water bottles, but found that we were a million times more focused on Skippy and his needs that neither I nor my wife were effectively hydrating. We started to feel unwell!
Did you know that you can get free cups of ice water at every Quick Service and Counter Service location at Disney World? That helped. We found that making very intentional stops just for water forced us to drink more. A) we were stopping for water and B) we had to hold the cups of water until we finished them. With our water bottles, we’d just take sips, close them, and put them back in the cup holder. By day four, we had a system down where we’d do one or two rides, and then make a point to do a water break. Bonus here! They weren’t breaks because we could continue walking to our next location as we sipped away. Minimal time wasted. While we much prefer leaning toward more environmentally friendly actions (i.e. using our own water bottles), that just didn’t work for us. We needed to take care of ourselves so we could both enjoy the vacation and take care of Skippy.

Next time? We’ll still bring our water bottles because they’re great to have on-hand at the resort. But the parks? Or even Disney Springs? We don’t plan on bringing our water bottles. We plan on taking advantage of the free water at Disney. Skippy will always have theirs, but we think the moms will pass. At least for the next Disney trip!
